OOP boy and his tortoise album download on sale!!

It’ like OPP, but it’s been OOP for a long time. The limited run of A Boy and His Tortoise S/T debut has been out of print for a long time, and probably will stay that way. Luckily, Boy, aka Mike Allan from Volta Sound has let us post it for download. It’s super cheap at only $4. That’s a lot cheaper than iTunes would bend you over for.

Mike Allan has been playing bass in rock bands since he was 15. At one time he was the resident Davenport Collective bass player, playing in The Dreadful Yawns, Volta Sound, Mike St. Jude, and Voxcaster.

Then he bought a guitar and started writing his own material. Soon he had the greatest break up album of all time on his hands.

To us it sounds like nothing else. It’s 100% Mike Allan. It’s got a dash of the Microphones thrown in with some stellar orchestral pop.

The album sold out long ago. The good news is we have it available here for download. Please note: No Artwork is included with download!

new rubella now available

The newest collection of songs from the most prolific slash and burn songsmith in cleveland, rubella, is entitled Stalker Rock. It is now available at the VGR Store for download ($2), or get a load of the amazing artwork by David Goblyn and order the hand sewn vinyl case ($4).

Aluminum Anemone is Ready

The debut album by VGR/Davenport’s Aluminum Anemone is set to be released this week. It’s heavy on bass, drums, and synths, but it still retains the droney rock feel of it’s members’ other two bands The Volta Sound and Dreadful Yawns.

VGR & ESR Collaborate

The fifth Dreadful Yawns album, Picnic, is set to be a co-release with Exit Stencil Recordings. ESR has released the two previous Yawns records (2007′s Rest and 2008′s Take Shape) and have agree to give the Yawns’ new one the vinyl treatment, along side the CD version which will be sent to the shelves, via yours truly. Right now the album is getting shipped off to mastering, and then to press. Expect it in late Spring!

GTBT Debut Back From Press

The folks here at VGR just saw our first copy of the completed Good Touch Bad Touch debut! Color us impressed. It looks beautiful. More importantly it sounds like a dream. Recorded and mixed entirely at the Davenport Collective in Cleveland, it is a little slice of mid-western pop rock heaven. Take the vocal harmonies of Teenage Fanclub, mix in a healthy dose of the ‘Mats drunken uncertainty, and temper with the unmistakable Cleveland state of mind and you are just getting there.

Their CD Release Show is at the Beachland Tavern on 4/24. It’s a few bucks. You should come.

New Yawns Album!

VGR is currently negotiating with Exit Stencil Recordings to release the brand new Dreadful Yawns album Picnic. It will be 10 songs and clocks in just over the 40 minute mark. The follow up to 2008′s Take Shape, Picnic is a completely different beast. It’s more lo-fi, but the songs have a richness and warmth that was lacking on Take Shape. More news next week.

We’re Back!

We’ve taken a nap for while. We’ve been working for over a year to get the VGR World HQ up and running and we are finally done! So now what?

Well, for starters, we’ve been busting ass, popping pills, and drinking beer in order to get this site up to full operating strength. Very soon we are going to have the entire VGR catalog uploaded. You’ll be able to buy T-shirts, CDs, or if you prefer the digital route you’ll be able to download any of the VGR albums, or songs directly to your porn box.

There are a ton of new albums that we’ll be introducing to the masses! Including Spacer Ace’s May Cause Dangerous double album, Eric Alleman’s album of spoken word insanity, Good Touch, Bad Touch’s newest album, and rubella’s in the triangle.
