rubella are a clevebland, ohio junkyard rock band formed in march 1998. although far outside the mainstream (in terms of their music and career path), they have released over 40 albums and have a developed a small cult following.
their music blends elements of rock’n'roll, sludge, dark folk, synth pop, spoken word and tape music, all with a distinctly avant-garde bent; their sound has evolved over time and remains distinctive, making it difficult to place the group into a concise style or genre.
the songs and subject manner have been described as intensely personal and mystical, incorporating recurrent themes and creating the mythology of ‘rubellaland’.
as of 2010 the group is composed of gregory rubella, gregory melnyk, william michael and jonathon roach.
special guests have also contributed throughout the years after much threatening and arm twisting.
